Weather station

Our main weather equipment consists of a Davis VP Pro 2 Wireless unit which includes the ability to measure outdoor and indoor temperature and humidity. It also measures wind speed and direction, and solar radiation with ultra violet content, and sends outside data wirelessly to a console inside of the house.

We log lightning strikes using a Boltek PCI lightning detector.

We are currently using a Logitech Quickcam 5000 to send images of the northern sky to this website during daylight hours.

Software

Most of the calculations here are produced by Weather Display which reads the instruments and sends the data and calculations to the web. We use Storm Predator, Weather Simulator (WXSim) and Digital Atmosphere to help predict storms and other severe weather conditions and use Astrogenic's NexStorm software to display local image maps of lightning, while we remain a member of the StrikeStar network to show thunderstorms throughout the United States.

Memberships and Affiliations

We are members of the Citizens Weather Observer Program, Weather Underground, Anything Weather, Weather For You, Strikestar US Experimental Lightning Location Network, and are an official Weather Spotter in Coos County, New Hampshire. The operator of this station, Larry Rappaport is a State Representative of Coos Country District 1.

Fast Updates!

Our site is updated quite frequently, some parts as often as every few seconds. Records, both all-time, monthly, and daily are still updated several times a day, and the "Live" section is updated almost as fast as it occurs. Data quality is constantly monitored and compared on the CWOP website.
